When collared and placed in front of a judge the standard ‘jail
card issued’ by professional rugby players, is the one along the lines “It’ll
harm my future overseas career prospects if I’m convicted”
One read of this blog will see this mitigation is an almost
guaranteed winner in any N.Z Court.
Only now, it appears you no longer need to be a top player
in New Zealand to also issue similar claims, that a conviction will curtail
your sporting future.
You only need to ‘dream’ you’ll one-day play Super Rugby or
for The All Blacks & you can present this as a factor for the judge to take-into
account come sentencing.
Even, when it involves the serious charge of punching
another man unconscious.
