Gisborne Rugby Incident ‘fuelled by alcohol’ God Forbid, what next?

The most overused N.Z euphemism, in the context of the third-estates reporting of our national code, must be; incident.

Incident of course doesn't do justice to what happened in the car-park of Rugby Park, Gisborne. 

Still, could we honestly expect the media to go 'full retard' on rugby in N.Z, given that virtually every page in the land currently features an article on the sport?  

Hell no!

Southland Stag Player Facing an Assault Charge

What were you doing last Sunday morning?

No, not 8.00 am.

Say, more like 3.00 am?

Tucked-up in the scratcher probably.

Not say involved in a brawl outside a 24 hour dairy?

Oh, unsurprisingly you prefer to leave that sort of activity to professional rugby players.

Like say Southland Stags player Manaaki Selby-Rickit who fronted court in Invercargill today facing a charge of assaulting with intent to injure.

Police outlined "The victim suffered a fractured jaw after allegedly being punched then kicked whilst on the ground."

Selby-Rickit is the son of former All Black, Hud Rickit.

When collared and placed in front of a judge the standard ‘jail card issued’ by professional rugby players, is the one along the lines “It’ll harm my future overseas career prospects if I’m convicted”   

One read of this blog will see this mitigation is an almost guaranteed winner in any N.Z Court. 

Only now, it appears you no longer need to be a top player in New Zealand to also issue similar claims, that a conviction will curtail your sporting future.  

You only need to ‘dream’ you’ll one-day play Super Rugby or for The All Blacks & you can present this as a factor for the judge to take-into account come sentencing.  

Even, when it involves the serious charge of punching another man unconscious. 

Enter stage left Kings High Old Boy, Pesajon Tili.

 Thankfully the Police and Judge saw through Tili’s defence ploy.

Kurow Rugby Club must be the saddest, most dysfunctional club in New Zealand

Kurow is a small town in North Otago that can barely throw together enough fit adult men to form a pool team, let alone, let alone enough to field a single senior men’s rugby squad. 

One thing they are not short of down the Hakataramea is the propensity to get ‘trolleyed’ after a game of rugger.

That’s what men-folk in country football teams do & have done for decades. 
 
You would have thought the death of a club member in a car accident after one of these prescribed after-matches (2016) would have tempered this practice & brought some sanity to this small sporting club.
 
Made the local community as whole take-a-look at themselves.

One pissed-up rugby star. 

Heated late night domestic. 

You already know this won’t end-up well.  

By the end of the night she ends-up suffering bruising to the side of her face and waist, bleeding from the knee. 

Who is ‘he’ in all of this? 

Sevu Reece of Waikato & his court appearance was today.

Facing the charge of common assault, he was discharged without conviction. 

Now replace ‘rugby star’ with say ‘taxi driver’ or ‘office manager’. 

 

Ask yourself?

You’ll doubtless come to the same conclusion as me as to justice being served evenly in this country. 

Up-Date Wednesday 03^rd Oct: Irish Club, Connacht, that Reece was due to join has dumped him despite his discharge. Clearly Irish Rugby officials treat domestic violence differently than N.Z Rugby. If ever there was an opportunity to show decisive action in-line with the sports Respect and Responsibility protocols – this was it. Reece is due to play this weekend for Waikato. What was his punishment again? Remind me.   

2^nd Up-date Monday 15^th October: Well what else did you expect from N.Z Rugby? They would act in the same chivalrous, decisive fashion as their Irish counterparts? Make a stand against domestic violence? You gotta be joking! Reece has been sent on some wishy-washy course, stood down for a single game. Wow! That will teach him a lesson, show the public that wife beaters have no place in the sport of rugby in 2018. Waikato Rugby Union sponsors include the likes of McDonalds, Vodafone, Waikato University, YMCA, The Breeze Radio Station etc.  These sponsors have had their name tarnished.

Salt of the earth ‘club men’ like Mike Cochrane (Hautapu Sports Club, Hamilton) learns the hard way that Super Rugby players are higher up the totem than him.

Yet another N.Z Rugby Player is up for assault and wants his mandatory get-out of jail free card

His name is being kept secret. 

All we know is he’s based in Blenheim. 

Player X admits the assault occurred, but now wants to be let off scott-free. 

Simply, because he’s a professional rugby player. 

And you’s (sic) know professional rugby players in New Zealand have scant respect for the law of the land, less respect for the courts. 

That’s because the courts treat rugby players differently.

The ‘promising’ Canterbury rugby player is called Joel Hintz.

He must have been forced to plead guilty.

Former Maori All Black captain up for assault & drink-driving

In a case that dates to 2015 Te Rua Tipoki has plead guilty today to assaulting his victim whilst he lay unconscious. 

It came out in court he was also up for drink-driving in 2016 as well. 

What a great leadership role model for Maori youth.

Now there’s a 4th Ex All Black in France facing trouble in the same year!

As I’ve said before, if all New Zealanders that visited France acted in the same fashion as our prized AB’s then we’d all be banned!  

We'd be put on the same list as ISIS. 

So far in the same calendar year we've had cocaine possession, accusations of gang rape, slapping the mrs around and now a good ol’ fashioned brawl.

I have encountered several groups of Lions supporters over the past month.  

Most affable and friendly. 

When it comes to supporting their team they do so through cheery ribald chants. 

In countenance how do All Black supports express their own support? 

Arrogance mixed with boorishness. 

Booing and jeering replaces chanting.  

Insipid pre-match renditions of the national anthem. 

All too often N.Z Rugby fans express their support in a negative fashion. 

This alleged abuse and assault on a John Spencer minding his own business with his wife is little surprise.  

That’s the way we do things here.

 

It's cringe-worthy, needs to change.  

 

Learn off The Lions supporters how to act in a positive fashion.

 

Developing a few chants, learning the words to the anthems would be a start in the right direction.
