Just weeks into the NZRFU’s
anti-violence ‘respect’ campaign started, an under-16s
schoolboy game in Wanganui was called off early after a number of fights broke out between two high-schools.
This comes shortly after a
teenage player was killed after a post-practice brawl.
Schoolboy rugby violence in
New Zealand rather than being the exception is now the rule.
The NZRFU’s APPLAUD campaign
was always due to fail miserably, is already in tatters.
Why should parents, amateur players
obey the law of the land when so many high profile players in this country are
in front of courts, escape substantive sanction from their employers?
