If South Canterbury Police want to lower domestic-violence then get Sky to ‘black-out’ All Black games

I’m left aghast at the belief by South Canterbury Rugby & Police they can some-how ‘combine’ to drop domestic violence in their region.

Is this a smoke-screen tactic to divert the public’s attention from a major source of family violence?

Televised rugby.

I’m not against the principals of the initiative, after-all this country leads the world in domestic violence.

There’s one major issue both the Police and Rugby fraternity in South Canterbury seem to ignore.

High profile rugby games lead to an increase in domestic violence.

This inconvenient fact comes from none-other source than the Police themselves!

It’s rugby-heads getting liquored-up and giving the ‘mrs’ a clip that add to the country’s appalling record.

Indeed, the local rugby clubs in South Canterbury should feel morally obligated to continuously raise money for Women’s Refuge given ‘big game’ nights lead to an increase in women seeking their services.

Women’s Refuge have highlighted this fact repeatedly.

Incidents spike when the local team loses.

This will be the same in South Canterbury and 'my money' is on the Polices own regional crime stats agreeing with this summation.

Rugby is not the cure here.

It’s a major problem.

White-Ribbon should be distancing itself from the sport altogether.

South Canterbury Rugby Players are part of the problem not the solution

“The campaign does not suggest domestic and family violence are in any way directed or attributed to rugby players or rugby clubs, but instead recognised the influence of rugby in the community”

South Canterbury Rugby Football Union chief executive Craig Calder is taking the piss....right?!

Or at least so enamored, deluded with his beloved sport not to see the facts?

Think no-one in Timaru knows there’s an internet search engine called Google?

The donation of 10 phones will go anyway to mitigate the sad record rugby has in the community.

His community, the one that needs to address violence and it's his organisation that's some-how going to lead that change.

Like f*ck!

Perhaps he's forgotten that 13 months into his own tenure a former South Canterbury representative rugby player called John Junior Faavae  who was sentenced in the Timaru Court to two years and six months in jail.

His crime?

Indecent assault and attempted sexual violation by rape.

I guess that's not community violence in 'rugby speak'.

In 2013 four South Canterbury players faced allegations of rape, which were later dropped due to in-sufficient evidence.

But wait there’s more!

April of 2000 South Canterbury Player Kemipolo Tongotongo was found guilty of sexual violation by rape.

His lawyer proudly told the court at the time "He is a rugby player of some considerable talent"

"The South Canterbury Rugby Union went to a lot of trouble to bring him from Auckland to play for them."

Clean-up your own act Mr Calder.

Put your arrogance to one side and face the facts you can't influence what goes on in the wider community.

You can influence the paltry 25 odd semi-professional players you have under contract.

Southland Rugby Poster Boys for Respect & Responsibility

The recommendations provide all of rugby a pathway to continue to ensure everyone involved in the game has the right information and understanding with regards to respect and responsibility to enable them to make the right decisions. This includes ensuring that our attitudes towards women in rugby, diversity, respect, responsibility and inclusiveness are in keeping with a world leading sports organisation (N.Z Rugby ‘Respect & Responsibility Review 2016)

Ex Southland Stags Assistant Managers & Southland Maori Rugby Coach JASON TE HUIA drunkenly racially abuses an Asian Doorman at the Queenstown Casino.

Mostly “Shoe lace eyes” don’t play rugby – they are fair game I guess.

Just up-the-road ex Southland front-row forward DREW RIORDAN appears in Gore District Court after scribing drunken intimidatory posts on Facebook against a female journalist.

"I bet there's no bush telegraph the night when she's lying dead on [sic] after being run over by a guy heading to the station" is all part of N.Z Rugby’s wonderful inclusiveness.

Just remember Kiwi readers: Rugby is part of our DNA.

Sad.

Young Masterton Rugby Referee Assaulted over the weekend

Sad state of affairs given all sports rely on volunteers, the age of the victim.

Wairarapa Bush Rugby Football Union chief executive Tony Hargood would like the public to believe this to be ‘an isolated event’.

There’s no problem here, move along people.

Of-course you are right there Tony.

This site is dedicated to a whole series of these ‘isolated incidences’ and The Sun Wolves are a shoe-in for the Super title.

Side-line brawls at rugby games going-on up & down the country

One could be forgiven thinking mass side-line melees are an Auckland phenomenon.

Players, fans all ‘getting amongst it’.

Systematic of Auckland Rugby’s downward spiral.

To their rescue comes South Otago.

And Dunedin Rugby as well for good measure.

Reports: here & here

Canterbury rugby goon loses his pro-contract

I’m crying a river.

A semi-professional rugby player has lost his opportunity to take up a contract overseas.

Keep a hanky close whilst you read about Oliver Sprott.

Good to see overseas clubs take serious crimes seriously, unlike here in N.Z.

Still he wasn't playing locally, so no one cares, no real loss.

What? More thuggery in New Zealand rugby?

An ‘after the whistle’ all-in brawl in Auckland over the weekend simply can’t be?

I could not believe my eyes when I read the article.

Help, next thing there will be a school shooting in the U.S.

One could suggest N.Z Rugby should instigate an expensive, inevitably futile, report into Respect and Responsibility.

Nah, just kidding.

Violence is part of rugby’s DNA.

Hard men are lionised.

This site hardly touches the surface of the violence that goes on every week in N.Z Rugby.

Most of it unreported.

This incident is the norm, not out of the ordinary.

PS: I wonder how the playing numbers at looking in Auckland Senior Rugby? They would be turning them away at the door one thinks. Not!

Ex Mako’s player gets off assault conviction

Type ‘one rule’ into the search blog search engine and you’ll see what gives me the motivation to take time to run this site.

Can’t be stuffed writing too much about Braden Stewart.

I’d only be repeating myself, increase my blood pressure needlessly.

'Bags' your kids get him as a teacher.

Waikato Rugby Stalwart Learns How N.Z Rugby Hegemony Operates

Salt of the earth ‘club men’ like Mike Cochrane (Hautapu Sports Club, Hamilton) learns the hard way that Super Rugby players are higher up the totem than him.

Even when you are the victim taking-on the likes of Craig Stevenson, the club was never going to back the no-one.

Cochrane should pick another sport.

There are plenty that would appreciate his efforts, not 'throw him under the bus'.
